Recent TV Tunes
Listen to the song in the first video below. Can you name that tune? Since there are no lyrics, it would be hard to look up the artist if you caught this ad on TV and liked the song. That’s where I come in, unless you have an iPhone, in which case you’re probably three steps ahead of me. So, it’s “Bag of Hammers” from Thao with The Get Down Stay Down. The happy and upbeat music makes cleaning with Clorox wipes look like a fun and antibacterialicious good time. But what’s with the Clorox wipes package looking like a box of tissues??? God help you if you accidentally blow your nose with these.
So then I heard this a cappella version of “Let Your Love Flow” in a Toyota Prius ad and wanted to know who was singing it. As it turns out, vocals and “instruments” are by Petra Haden. Here’s some trivia for you: Petra comes from a musical family, she’s a triplet and one of her sisters is Tanya Haden, who is married to Jack Black.
And finally, I was happy to hear a familiar voice at the end of last week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. It was A.C. Newman‘s “Prophets” off of Get Guilty, and the song was played for nearly two minutes, which is a sizable chunk of TV time. Of course at first I wasn’t sure if it was a song from The New Pornographers or a solo A.C. Newman. Here it is:
