More Outdoor Music in Brooklyn

27Mar09

Ever since I heard that McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn was set to become a pool again, I was wondering what would happen to the concerts that were held there. I had seen good shows put on by Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Bloc Party there, but there were also a bunch of free shows, too. In fact, it was at McCarren Park Pool that I witnessed the craziest evidence of the fact that New Yorkers love two things—free stuff and music. And combining the two inspires people to wait for hours in the pouring rain to just maybe get inside the gate to hear a few songs (in this case it was MGMT). So, to fill the void left in the roster of outdoor venues, it turns out they have found a new spot in Williamsburg. It’s a space along the East River that has views of the Manhattan skyline and room for 6,000 fans. There’s no schedule of events yet, but you can read the full news article here.
