All I Want for President’s Day…

Please just look at this track listing for this 2-disc compilation CD. I swear I am not making it up. These songs were recorded exclusively for Dark Was the Night, an upcoming album produced by Aaron and Bryce Dessner (both of The National). The profits from sales of this album will go to the Red Hot Organization, a global HIV/AIDS awareness organization.  Unfortunately, the album was not released in time for the holidays (it would have made my Christmas shopping so much easier). Looks like I’ll have to wait another month and a half since the release date is February 17, 2009, just missing Valentine’s Day and, well, President’s Day, too. Seriously, if they could just move it up a month, I have a long list of January birthdays…But my real request is that they put together a record release party featuring live performances of all 31 songs. And invite me of course.

Did you ever end up getting Dark Was the Night for yourself for President’s Day?! If you did, let me know if you think it’s worth getting for myself.

  2. you know, I haven’t bought it yet. But I will soon. I know you can listen to part of it on if you just want to check it out. I can only devote my attention to one album at a time (right now it’s M. Ward’s Hold TIme), but Dark Was the Night will be next. And I will let you know how it is.

  3. update: I bought Dark was The Night a few weeks ago. It’s really really good.
